BMX Racer Kamahl Lord takes out August Sports Star

16th October 2009

Kamahl Lord's performances during August this year have pleased the Sports Star selectors, earning him the crown for that month. Kamahl has received a $50 voucher sponsored by SportspowerMildura, and is now eligible for selection as the 2009 Sports Star of the Year.

Kamahl has been at the top of his sport for more than 15 years, having been World No. 2 in 1992 and 1994, and World No. 1 in 1995 in the 18 and over Men's category. He was also the Australian and Victorian champion in 1995, and was crowned the Northern Mallee Sports Star for that Year.

Kamahl took a lengthy break from BMX racing, but has recently made an incredible comeback to the sport. He is currently ranked No. 7 in the world in the 20 inch category and No. 8 in the 30+ cruisers category. In May, Kamahl competed in the Australian Titles in Perth WA, where he was palced 7th in the 30-34y.o. Cruiser section and 8th in the 30-34y.o. Masters section.

To his credit, Kamahl went into the World Championships in Adelaide SA with a fractured arm, and was told not to compete to allow time for the injury to heal - he was palced 7th in the Masters and 8th in the Cruiser sections. Kamahl is now preparing to compete in the Victorian Titles in November.
