Joel reaches top 15, and receives April Sports Star Award

Joel Ridings has been awarded the April Sports Star Award, following an outstanding performance at the Australian Junior Powerlifting Championships in Melbourne.
Joel recently competed in the Australian Junior Powerlifting Championships held in Melbourne. Joel achieved his best competition total to date with a total lift of 572.kg. He also qualified for the 2009 World Junior Championships to be held in Brazil later in the year.
Joel achieved a personal best squat of 225kg, a bench press of 135kg, and a personal best dead lift of 212.5kg giving him a personal best total of 572.5kg. The qualifying total for the world championships is 565kg.
Joel is now ranked in the top 15 Under 23 75kg Powerlifters in the world. He hopes to better his world placing of 10th at the 2008 World Championships which was held in South Africa last year. As Joel is only 20 years of age is still eligible as a junior for another 3years. In that time he should be ranked in the top 5 in the world. This is an outstanding achievement in any sport.
