National Volunteers Week - "Making a world of difference"

Following on from the successful “This Girl Can Week” campaign, Mallee Sports Assembly is keen to celebrate National Volunteer Week (NVW) by acknowledging the generous contributions of our nation’s volunteers.

In celebration, Volunteering Australia is pleased to announce the theme for National Volunteer Week 2019 – “Making a world of difference”.  From 20–26 May 2019, thousands of events will be held across the country to say thank you to the 6 million Australians who volunteer their time. The week-long celebration will include breakfasts, morning/afternoon teas, and luncheons, as well as open days, award ceremonies, picnics, forums and training sessions.   In 2016, Australians collectively volunteered 932 million hours in their local communities.

As part Mallee Sports Assembly contribution to National Volunteer Week we will recognise volunteers at our sporting club/association by extending an invitation to our members to submit a 100 word story and include photos endorsing volunteers “Making a world of difference”.   During National Volunteer Week MSA will recognise our volunteers who “Make a World of difference” at our member clubs/associations on social media, website and in the June newsletter.  Please remember that our sporting clubs/associations would not exist without our VOLUNTEERS – why not recognise these wonderful people.

With the success of the Mildura Child Safe Standards Workshop in May. Mallee Sports Assemblyy will be conducting another workshop to ensure more clubs know  how the Child Safe Standards will apply to our local clubs.

The Standards are flexible and principle based. “Child safety is not an add-on or one-off exercise and just about developing policies, it is about creating a culture and environment within your organisation that is supportive and protective of children”

The 7 standards, will be outlined and discussed through the workshop. Mallee Sports Assembly will be conducting a workshop in Mildura on the 26th July, 6.30pm, at Mildura Workers Bowls Club, Cureton Ave, Mildura. There is a small cost to attend this workshop.
